Fred was born in Canada and has lived in the UK since 1968. He was educated at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada (BA, English), at Brown University, USA (M.A, PhD, Philosophy), and at Oxford University, where he wrote his doctoral dissertation.
He is a Director of Frederick Mulder Ltd, a business he established in London in 1971 which deals in European printmaking circa 1470 to 1970. He is considered to be one of the world’s experts in the field of 19th and 20th century European prints, particularly in the work of Picasso and Munch. His clients include most of the world’s major museums as well as private, institutional and trade clients from around the world.
He is the Founder of The Funding Network and served from 2002-2012 as its Chair. More recently he has played an active role in the international roll out of TFN’s model to countries including Australia, Singapore, the USA, Romania and Turkey.
Fred won the Judges’ Special Beacon Fellowship Prize in March 2004 and the SPEARS Lifetime Achievement Award in Philanthropy, 2012-13. He was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Philanthropy in the New Year Honours 2012.
Fred’s fellow Trustees are two of his children, Robin and Hannah. His son Rhodes, who is based in the US, cannot for legal reasons be a Trustee but acts as an advisor to the Foundation.
